First, let me say this...We are not beach people. My family likes the ocean and the beach environment, but we don't like to spend days at the beach. Honestly, we get bored. So...when we planned five days in Key West, I was a little apprehensive. However, I was pleasantly surprised once we arrived. There is so much to do, and the beaches are the least impressive thing about Key West! We didn't spend one day at the beach! Check out all the fun things we did in Key West!

Key West is known for its beautiful sunsets! This is the view from our balcony. Perfect! |
We stayed at the Margaritaville Resort! I highly recommend this hotel because of its perfect location! It's two blocks from Duval Street, and it overlooks Mallory Square.
The first thing I did when we got to the room...Coffee on the balcony! |
The first thing Ariana did...Selfie in a robe. Ha! |
Check out our view!
We had a view hours to explore on our first night. First stop...key lime pie, of course! |
Ariana (Ana) found her very own cafe! |
I love the marina! |
I bought my first souvenir! |
On our second day, we rented a car/golf cart and went exploring! |
The streets in Key West are beautiful! |
We stopped at mile marker 0!
Chickens are everywhere! |
We drove over to Fort Zachary Taylor. The water is beautiful there! |
We found out later that the fort is haunted. Yikes! |
Next stop, the Hemingway House! |
I loved this tour! So much history! |
The six-toed cats were everywhere! |
We ended the day with a sunset cruise! |
After the cruise, we stopped by Mallory Square for some fruity drinks! |
We began day three with a sailboat ride, snorkeling , and kayaking! |
The water was beautiful! I wish we had an underwater camera for pictures of snorkeling. We saw some beautiful fish! Key West has the third largest coral reef in the world!
We kayaked around the mangroves. This was one of my favorite parts of the trip! It was beautiful, and so much fun. I wish I had more pictures, but we didn't take our phones. Kevin snapped a pictures as we were returning to the boat. |
We ended the day with dinner at Sloppy Joe's! Great food and great atmosphere! |
We did a lot of walking on day four! We spent the morning at the Lighthouse Museum and the Shipwreck Museum. We also did a little shopping on Duval Street. We spent the afternoon in the hotel room and at the pool.
So...I'm afraid of heights, so I did not climb the spiral staircase to the top of the lighthouse. Ariana and Kevin did, and got some great pictures! |
The Shipwreck Museum was really cool! It reminded me of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disney World. |
Much needed pool time after all the walking! |
Some pigeons joined us. Ha! |
Day Five! We walked all the way to the Southernmost Point of the Continental U.S.A. It was about a 30 minute walk from our hotel. It rained a little that morning, so it was a relatively cool (low 80s) walk.
We ended the day with a ghost tour! Okay, this was pretty cool, but a little creepy! We learned all about Key West's weird history. It was pretty interesting. Key West was originally called Cayo Hueso which means bone island. Key West has a lot of unusual history.
Our tour guide was great! We went on a bus tour, and she told us all about the weird history of key west. |
We drove by several haunted locations. |
This is the house of Robert the Doll. He "lived" in the attic for many years. Now, he "lives" at the East Martello Museum. Read on to learn more about him. Eek! |
Do you see the green orb? We could see these through the camera on our phones. Okay...So, we figured out the lights were making the orbs, so they weren't paranormal. Still, I thought this was really creative! |
Hello, Robert! First, I have to ask... Robert, is it okay if I put your picture on my blog? When we arrived at Robert's room, we had to say hello and ask if we had permission to take his picture. Apparently, you will be cursed if you don't do this. Eek! Many people are afraid of dolls. I'm not one of them; however, Robert was pretty scary. The creepy music and flickering lights didn't help. There are several movies based on his story! Thank you, Robert. Goodbye, Robert. (We had to say that, too.) |
Here are a few more sunset pictures! Beautiful!
That's a floating tiki bar! Ha! |
We had a great time in Key West! Until next time!
